them to rank on Google and get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews.

The developer behind DevBehindYou
Why one person does all four.
DevBehindYou is Ashutosh Sharma. Developer by heart, SEO specialist by
mind, analyst by habit. I build web and mobile products, then engineer them to be found.
Same person, same project, no handoff in between.
I started as a developer. Shipping felt great until I watched good products sit invisible
in search. So I learned SEO properly, as my problem rather than marketing’s. Then AI
search moved the goalposts and I went deep on GEO before
the industry agreed on a name for it.
Since then: 12+ web builds, 150+ SEO and GEO strategies, 2,500+ content pieces, 250+ UX
wireframes, across SaaS, HR tech, manufacturing, QA automation, edtech and real estate.
Building without discoverability is invisible. Marketing on a weak technical base is
fragile. I pick both.

Building comes first. Search and AI visibility decide whether anyone sees the build. The data settles arguments about both. Split them across four vendors and you pay for the handoffs.

Technical SEO and GEO as one discipline, run next to the code. I read the crawl logs, fix the render-blocking code myself, and confirm it in Search Console. Most SEO reports list problems. Mine arrive with the commits that solved them.

Shipped builds
Sites and apps I have shipped.
12+ builds across client work and my own products. Three below, picked because they solve three different problems. Every build ships with technical SEO structured in rather than retrofitted.
CLIENT BUILD · DATA & AI
Datastride Analytics
A data and AI analytics consultancy. I built the site and wrote the SEO and GEO strategy behind it, so architecture and search plan were decided together.
Bookings, conversation and client records in one place. Next.js front to back, a chat widget for first contact, and a custom admin panel so the owner runs it without paying for a CRM.
Full-stack Next.js build
Custom CRM panel for clients and bookings
Chat widget wired into the same data layer
FULL STACK · NEXT.JS
Raku-Chan
A VTuber fan site with a community to manage and a content schedule to keep. Different audience, same discipline: server-rendered, fast, run from a purpose-built panel.
Full-stack Next.js build
Admin panel for content and community
Built for a non-technical owner to run alone
The rest sit under client NDAs, alongside 14 templates I wrote and sell as source code.
Stack gets picked per project: Next.js by default, WordPress when a client’s team
maintains it, Flutter when it needs to be an app.
Open-source web app that converts documents into clean Markdown using Microsoft’s MarkItDown library. Built after a $50 afternoon API bill showed me what token overhead raw files were costing.
A note app built around two things most note apps trade against each other: security and convenience. Local-first, with a deliberately small surface area.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting a brand surfaced
and cited inside AI-generated answers on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews,
rather than only in blue-link search results. Answer engines quote passages, not
pages.

Where they overlap
Crawlability, schema, speed and clean structure carry both. Skip them and neither one works.
GEO is not a replacement for technical SEO. It is what technical SEO was already pointing
at. Fix the crawl, mark up the entity, answer early, and both surfaces improve on one commit.
This page runs the playbook: schema graph, answer-first FAQ, crawler rules and an
llms.txt brief, all live on the URL you are reading.
Nobody controls what a model quotes. The work removes every reason an engine would skip you.
The difference
One head, or four handoffs.
Most work like this splits across a developer, an SEO consultant, a writer and an analyst. Every seam costs time and context.

Being straight: an agency wins on raw capacity. If your scope needs six people in parallel,
hire the agency. If it needs one person who will not lose the thread between the code and
the rankings, that is this.

Why trust me
Proof, not promises.
Straight answers and numbers you can check. Where a figure isn’t confirmed, it stays marked pending.
The work is checkable. Build counts, post counts, the actual reports produced. Not “boosted visibility” with nothing behind it.
DevBehindYou SEO advice comes from someone who ships the fix. 12+ builds, including datastride.ai and two full-stack Next.js products with custom admin panels. The code is on the DevBehindYou GitHub.
Three real roles, and a promotion. NinePages, TheFirstRanker, and Content Whale before them, who moved me from writing the content to running the team producing it.
Early on GEO, not chasing it late. I was structuring content for AI answer engines before the industry agreed on a name for it.
No guaranteed-rankings pitch. Nobody can guarantee a ranking. Anyone who does is selling you something.
Ask about any layer and get a real answer. The database, the crawl budget, the GA4 property. No hand-wave to “our team handles that”.

What does DevBehindYou actually do?
DevBehindYou is Ashutosh Sharma. I build web and mobile products, structure them for SEO and GEO, write the content that fills them, and read the analytics that prove it worked. 12+ builds, 150+ strategies, 2,500+ content pieces, 250+ wireframes. Most teams split that across four vendors and lose context at every handoff.
What kind of web development do you take on?
Full-stack web apps and marketing sites. React and Next.js with Node.js behind them, MongoDB, Supabase or Firebase for data, Flutter for apps, WordPress when a client’s team maintains the site. Most common jobs: a marketing site that has to rank, an internal CRM or dashboard, and migrations off legacy WordPress. Recent work: datastride.ai, plus two full-stack Next.js products with custom admin panels.
What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and why does it matter?
GEO is the practice of getting your brand surfaced and cited inside AI-generated answers on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, rather than only in blue-link results. Answer engines pull from structured, verifiable, entity-rich content, so the work is schema, entity signals, direct answer formatting and crawler configuration.
How is GEO different from SEO?
Classic SEO competes for a position in a list. GEO competes to be the source a model quotes. There is no rank to track, so you measure citations. The unit pulled is a passage, not a page. Entity clarity outweighs link volume. The technical foundations overlap almost completely.
How do you get a brand cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity?
Answer the question in the first two sentences of a section. Mark the page up so a machine can tell a person from a product from a service. Publish claims a model can check. Allow GPTBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot in robots.txt. Add an llms.txt brief.
What makes you different from an agency?
No handoffs. The person who audits your site is the person who fixes the code, writes the content and reads the analytics. Recommendations arrive with the commits that implemented them.
What is your standard stack?
React and Next.js on the frontend, Node.js behind, Flutter for apps, WordPress where a client’s team maintains the site. Python, BigQuery, GA4 and Search Console for data. Screaming Frog for crawls, schema by hand. This page is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no build step.
Do you take on design work?
I focus on architecture, development, SEO and GEO. UI/UX is a working foundation rather than my headline craft, though 250+ wireframes have shipped for edtech, marketplace and real estate clients. For extensive original design I bring in a dedicated designer.
Are you available for hire, and how does a project start?
Yes, freelance and full-time both. Freelance covers web development, app development, SEO and GEO strategy, brand building and AI-SEO content. Send one message describing what you are building. I reply inside one business day with two or three observations about your site.
Do you work with international clients, and how fast do you reply?
Yes. Based in India, working across US, Europe and Asia-Pacific hours, with overlap agreed at kickoff. Email gets a personal reply within one business day.
Where can I find DevBehindYou online?
The DevBehindYou GitHub at github.com/DevBehindYou holds 25+ public repositories, including MDify, Atomic-Notes and timoglobe. The full DevBehindYou portfolio, with case studies and 14 templates, is at devbehindyou.vercel.app. Writing goes to Medium at @devbehindyou, and the same handle covers LinkedIn, X and YouTube.
